3rd November, 2023 - Careers Interviews have been happening over the last couple of weeks in the library with our Year 11 cohort. Each student gets to spend some time with either Wendy Watson or Ms Pickaver (Careers Advisor) and talk about options for students after their time at Whitstone School and beyond. 

6th November 2023 - Today we had the pleasure of taking part in the Britannica What on Earth Quiz heats via zoom competing with teams from across the UK.

We had a keen group comprising of Max P, Jake P, Caoimhe M and Violet L who worked hard to battle through three fiendish rounds set by quizmaster Christopher Lloyd. They worked really hard together as a formidable quiz team. We find out the result tomorrow! Well done for all your excellent work!

7th November 2023: As part of our ongoing weekly inter House Competitions students have been asked to take part in a Design a Poppy competition. Students have the chance to use their creative skills and gain points for their house. The closing date is Friday (10.11.23) so students need to get their entries in before then! Results will be announced next week.


8th November 2023: Yesterday our Year 10 students visiting the MShed in Bristol as part of their Art BTEC course. The students got to explore all the floors of the museum and research and draw various exhibits from prehistoric times right up to modern day objects.


14th November 2023: On Monday after school the Eco Club led a session in the Science Department called Teach the Teacher. This aims to ' have climate change put into the curriculum across all subjects, showing students the different ways it will impact them and that the different ways they can make a difference, whatever their interests are.' The session was attended by various members of staff from across the school and was informative and knowledgeable.


9th November 2023: Today some of our students travelled to Downside School to listen to author and journalist, Nikesh Shukla who was talking about his new book, Stand Up. Not only did he talk about his writing journey but also about some of the struggles of getting published and the problems he came up against from people who disliked his points of view.

10th November 2023: Today our students who take part in cadets, scouts and guides wore their service uniforms to school as part of an annual Whitstone School Tradition.

13th November 2023: A member of the PAWS Therapy Dog Training team came to meet our Therapy Dog-in-training, Rusty, today. They looked at how he had settled in around the school environment and gave both Mr and Mrs Heaton (Rusty's owners) tasks to complete before they visit again next term. Rusty is making great progress in the course so far and training is going well. Both Mr and Mrs Heaton are also completing online theory modules alongside his training and making sure they are keeping pace with Rusty's learning!


15th November 2023: On Wednesday we were selected as one of the only schools in Somerset to participate in the BBC Bitesize School's Tour. We hosted three local entrepreneurs from local businesses who talked about their careers and their journey to their employment. Julia O'Connor, Sam Kenyon Hamp and Lucy Bailey spoke to the students in a ‘Question Time’ scenario and students quizzed the panel about their careers.


16th November 2023: Mrs Turner's Year 10 catering class made Decorative Focaccia, with dipping sauces. They worked so incredibly hard on developing their complex skills as part of their BTEC Hospitality and Catering course.

20th November 2023: Our first inter house competition required students to design a poppy. The entries are now displayed in the library with the ever-resonant message: Lest we forget.

22nd November 2023: This week, Nick from South West Films has been shooting some film to update some of the videos on the school website. Not only did he get to glance at a normal school day here at Whitstone School but also managed to get some awesome drone footage of the school grounds when the sun came out!


17th November 2023: As part of the ongoing house competitions, aspire groups were asked to decorate their classroom doors to reflect their house values. Here are some of the doors that were created!



21st November 2023: Last week the school came together to raise funds for Children in Need 2023 through a bake sale and a non uniform day. As a school we raised a total of £414:37. Well done!



24th November 2023: As part of the fundraising efforts for this years prom, Year 11 held a bake sale in the canteen on Friday at break and lunch time. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

28th November 2023: Over the last couple of days Year 9 have been having workshops with two of our local PCSO's who have been educating them on Gender based violence and the dangers of it and the effect it can have on people. Thank you to PSCO Baron and PCSO Riley for their informative session.


23rd November 2023: On Thursday we were joined by local primary schools who took part in the annual dance festival. It was lovely to see so many students involved in what was an energetic and lively final performance!


27th November 2023: Have you seen that we have now got our new house shields up? These represent Buzzards (blue), Kites (red), Peregrines (yellow) and Kestrels (green). The new logos have been designed by our Art Teacher Mx La Turner.



29th November 2023: On Friday last week, a number of our Key Stage 3 students were lucky enough to take part in a page to stage masterclass lead by local author and superstar writer, Steve Barlow. Mr Barlow showed students the skills of taking a text like Shakespeare or Dickens needs careful consideration to turn it in to either a graphic novel or a playscript.
