Our Statistics curriculum is designed to ensure that all students, including those who are disadvantaged, develop strong analytical skills, secure understanding, and confidence in interpreting data. We focus on building firm foundations, removing barriers to learning, and helping students develop positive attitudes towards statistics and its real-world applications.
At Key Stage 4, students follow a structured curriculum that develops fluency in statistical techniques, reasoning, and problem-solving through carefully planned lessons. Learning is sequenced to help students understand how to collect, represent, analyse, and interpret data, and to apply these skills in a range of meaningful contexts.
The curriculum prepares students for GCSE Statistics, following the Pearson Edexcel GCSE Statistics specification. High expectations are set for all learners, with a focus on applying statistical methods to real-life data, developing critical thinking, and interpreting information presented in the media and wider society.
Lessons are clearly structured and focus on depth of understanding. Teachers use direct instruction, regular practice, retrieval, and problem-solving to strengthen learning. Assessment is used to identify gaps and misconceptions early, and support is provided without lowering expectations. Statistical vocabulary, methods, and representations are taught explicitly to support understanding.
As a result, students make strong progress, including those who are disadvantaged. They leave school with secure statistical knowledge, confidence in handling and interpreting data, and the skills needed for further study, employment, and informed decision-making in everyday life.
