We understand how important your child’s success is to you. Below, you’ll find information about each platform, along with practical advice on how you can support them to complete their homework each week.

Sparx Maths

  • Teachers will set topics for homework that have recently been covered in class and this will make up the majority of each child’s homework, but it will also include some questions from previously learnt topics to help consolidate learning.
  • Each Sparx Maths question includes a support video, helping your child find the guidance they need on their own. This ensures they always have the tools to succeed.
  • While homework is accessed and answered online, children should record their work in a workbook. Sparx Maths includes ‘Bookwork checks’ to encourage students to develop this habit.
  • Students also have the autonomy to further develop their mathematical knowledge if they desire, via the ‘Independent Learning’ section of the platform.
  • Homework will only be marked complete when 100% of the compulsory questions are answered correctly
  • You can also find out more about Sparx Maths on the dedicated parent page-

Sparx Reader

  • Students choose from a range of age-appropriate ebooks at their reading level and, as they read, they will answer questions to check that they are reading carefully.
  • Sparx Reader informs teachers and parents that focused and careful reading is taking place, and ensures that readers of all abilities feel successful and motivated.
  • Homework will only be marked complete when the Sparx Reader Points target has been met.

How Can I Support My Child’s Reading?

  • Encourage independence – Sparx Reader adapts to each student’s reading level, so please avoid answering questions for them. If you help, the system may incorrectly assume they need more challenging books.
  • Provide a quiet reading space and a set amount of time for their weekly reading homework. Students may find it easier to complete their Sparx Reader homework in two or three smaller chunks of time, rather than all in one go.
  • Engage in conversations – ask about the book they are reading, their favourite characters, recent events, and what they think might happen next.
